NORTHWEST KYOKUSHIN CHALLENGE TOURNAMENT RULES

 

  1. COACHES
    1. Each fighter may have no more than two coaches
    2. Only the coaches of each fighter may sit beside the fighting area.
    3. The head coach can end the fight by throwing a towel into the ring.
  2. MATCHES
    1. The first round is 2 minutes.
    2. Overtime will be 1 minute. There will be one overtime extension. Except for the finals, 2 overtime extensions are permitted.
    3. There must be a decision made by the judges and referee in the final overtime.
  3. WINNING A MATCH
    1. Ippon (one point)
    2. Ippon by two Waza Aris
    3. By obtaining a kiken (the opponent gives up or does not appear)
    4. By shikkaku (the opponent is disqualified)
    5. By Hantei (decision of the judges and/or referee)
  4. HOW POINTS ARE AWARDED
    1. Ippon (one point) is awarded when a fighter knocks down or stuns his opponent for 3 or more seconds by using any legal technique.
    2. Waza Ari (half point) is awarded when a fighter knocks down or stuns his opponent for less than 3 seconds by using any legal technique.
    3. Two Waza Ari will result in Ippon 
  5. KOUKA
    1. Kouka is counted by each judge/referee himself and considered when making a decision of the winner.
    2. A Kouka is awarded when a competitior gives his opponent a clean shot with momentary light damage by any legal technique.
    3. When a competitor knocks/throws/sweeps down the opponent and follows up immediately with a controlled strikee, the fighter may not be awarded with Waza Ari but Kouka.
  6. GRABBING
    1. Attach and sweep techniques with momentary hooking are legal.
    2. Momentary means to hold your opponent for only a split second.  Holding your opponent for longer will not be allowed.
  7. FAKE PUNCHES
    1. Fake technique to the face without contact is legal, However, accidental contact may result in a penalty.
  8. ILLEGAL TECHNIQUES
    1. All intention kicks to the knee joint, such as gedan yoko geri, kakato geri, and gedan mawashi geri.
    2. Punches, elbows, and head-butt to the face or throat.
    3. Striking to the groin, neck, or back
    4. Sweeping technique following up by falling on the opponent for the purpose for doing damage to the opponent.
    5. Any strike to the opponents back. This does not extend to a technique that is  commenced prior to the opponent turning his back.
  9. WARNINGS
    1. The Referee may issue unofficial warning to fighters while a fight is in progress.
    2. An official warning is either a decision for three or more judges/referee or the referee alone.
    3. Chui - formal warning to a fighter
    4. Genten This is a serious foul and will result in a minus half point. A genten can be overridden by scoring a waza ari.  Two chui's will result in a genten.
    5. Shikkaku - disqualification. Two genten's will result in a Shikkaku.
  10. DISQUALIFICATION
    1. If a violation is clearly intentional the referee may declare Shikkaku immediately.
    2. If a fighter acts in an unsportsmanlike manner the refreee may disqualify him.
  11. COMPETITIORS SAFETY
    1. ADULTS

1.     Each competitor must wear a mouth guard and a groin guard, and will not be permitted to compete without these items.

2.     Women a chest protector is optional, but must not cover the stomach. All competitors wearing protection will be inspected by a female judge.

3.     The tournament doctor may make a decision that a competitor cannot continue in a bout or enter the next round and that decision is final.

4.     Any competitor receiving an injury cannot enter the next round without approval from the tournament doctor.

5.     No competitor shall compete under these rules if they have tested positively for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, or H.I.V. OR if they have any disease that may be transmitted to another person through saliva, sweat, touch or bodily contact.

    1. JUNIORS

1.     All the above rules will apply to junior with the additional rules:

2.     All fighter will be required to wear head gear, fist gaurds, shin/instep pads. Fist gaurds are not to extend beyond the wrist.
